HIS GRACE THE DUKE OF MARLBOROUGH

Following on with a more cheerful post, here is a 54mm figure I painted a while back as the start of a 54mm Funny Little Wars project, but based in The War of the Spanish Succession (I'm calling it Funny Little Wigs). I plan to paint a small force each for the allies and the Franco-Bavarians and am making good progress with the former.

A rather nice figure from Tradition, but Rose Miniatures do an even better version of the Duke which I hope to get hold of (for Christmas).

  1. Cool figure, can't wait to see his troops... not to mention opponents too!

    1. Hope to show them soon, and then put my mind to getting some French, or preferably Bavarians.

  2. 54s seem to be catching on. I got the Rose figure years and years ago (didn't know they still made them). At the time the Duke was part of a series called 'Marlborough's Guards' so I ended up two foot figures as well. This stuff is certainly bringing back memories, many thanks.

    1. I'm enjoying 54mm all the more as I can actually see them clearly when painting them. I still like smaller scales, but the 54mm chaps are flavour of the month.

  3. Excellent work! Also I salute your current choice of listening: as I'm sure we've discussed before Dio-era 'Sabbath is also a great love of mine. Current listening on my part is Bowie 'Hunky Dory' and Tull 'Aqualung'. They most certainly don't make 'em like that any more!

    1. A real pity the poor old sod (RJD that is) got the dreaded cancer, just glad I saw him sing live before he succumbed... without a doubt the greatest voice in rock. I admire Bowie for being so damn cool, but never really got into his music..... Tull on the other hand are (or were, as I believe Mr. Anderson has retired to grow chillis) possibly the best band in the universe and beyond.

    1. Seem to have sorted it out by changing the background colour....blogger sometimes does these things.

  5. His Grace the Duke is most impressive. Lovely work painting him, wonderfully old school.
    Cheers,

    1. More wigs are on the horizon, I have Prince Eugene, King Lewis and also some French courtiers on the painting table.
