BACK, BUT JUST FLOGGING STUFF!

Hello all...it's been a manic year and ages since my last post. I have been painting, but lack of any form of camera has put paid to my posting progress. The current project making good headway is 28mm Italian Wars and I'm well ahead with a Venetian army. This post is just to put up some pictures (taken on Mrs. Atticus' phone) to show a prospective buyer my 1/72 TYW figures I am selling to finance more purchases (including a camera).

MORE ROYALISTS AND SOME NEW RULES

I'm managing to stick to my plan so far and cracking on with one project, although other ideas are jostling to get to the front of the queue, including getting out my 28mm Thirty Years War figures and doing something with them (they are of course unpainted). I went along to Crusade at Penarth a couple of weeks ago and an old re-enactment chum was putting on a huge game of Lutzen 1632, using his newly published rules.

I am tempted to do Mansfeld's rag-tag army in 28mm.

There was also a brilliant 54mm Fantasy game put on by The Skirmish Wargames Group. One of the members said he would mail me some pictures, so hopefully I can post them soon.

Not sure whom these guys will be yet....possibly Maurice's Regiment?

I painted them to look like a really flaky unit from the Sealed Knot back in the 1980's. Hats turned up at the side (usually fixed with a new age celtic brooch), startling white hose, and matching gingery breeches......true old school ECW.

The officer on the left is possibly the oldest figure I own (or one of them). He used to belong to my brother and had been in the wars, missing his sword blade and left hand. I repainted him to match the original light blue plastic. The ensign is from a dump bin at a show, again he was missing both hands, and the drummer is A Call to Arms but with a Maros Models head.

A generic flag, loosely based on Gerard's colour.

I found these fellows at a show for the pricely sum of 50p. It was hard to see what they were, but embedded in all the flash was a musketeer in 2 parts (the right arm and musket was a separate piece). They have the look and flash one associated with Replicants, but I couldn't be sure. Original colour was bright red plastic. 

Just realised the belt buckles need painting, must get that done.

ARMY BLACK STARTS IT'S MARCH

At the start of the year I swore not to undertake any new projects, but within days I was captivated by the shiny soldiers on the Tin Soldiering On blog, and the whole idea of actually firing cannons at them to knock them over, just as I did umpteen years ago. The idea formulating is to build armies for The Invasion of 1910 as written about by William Le Queux.

First off some Germans

The bodies are White Metal Mail and the heads Irregular.



REGIMENT MAESTRO

I have been distracted recently from painting and blogging by Gillian Anderson. Sadly in DVD format as I got hold of the first 2 series of The X-Files which I used to enjoy in those heady days of bachelorhood, weaving back from the pub in time to see them on BBC2.

However I have completed more Imperial Cavalry, this time Maestro regiment which were heavily engaged at Wimpfen

Riders are Tumbling Dice and horses Revell.

I have also been looking at buying some Romano-British re-enactment kit to kick off a new period after a couple of years off dressing up and playing at soldiers.

ALT-HERBERSDORF CAVALRY

Here is the latest unit to crawl off the workbench. Regiment Alt-Hebersdorf. I have used Pappenheim's cornet on this regiment as I think I read somewhere he was Herbersdorf's son-in-law and may have commanded them at Wimpfen.

The riders are Tumbling Dice and the horses Revell. Bases to be finished later. Right back to the painting table.....

CORDOBA'S CUIRASSIERS

To give myself a change from painting 1/32 figures, I decided to return to my 1/72 Thirty Years War project, building the armies listed in Guthrie, to refight The Batttle of Wimpfen. I have been wondering how to base the figures, and in the end plumped for Gush's WRG Renaissance, which always provide a really fun game.

I usually finish the bases en masse at the end of painting, and am still wondering how to do it (a dark brown flock with dead winter static grass would be suitably gloomy for this terrible conflict)

The horses are Tumbling Dice, and the riders Revell with the odd Mars officer.
